I once heard somebody saying that when you fall in love you do it forever, for the rest of your life no matter how the story ends.
You may be lucky enough to fall in love just once and to form a lasting, loving relationship with that person who truly loves you all the same. You may also be lucky if you can fall in love easily, and for many times, so that you are sure to love many persons, at the same time or separately, during your lifetime. It certainly gets easier if you can fall quickly for another person after a disastrous break-up with another lover!
But there are some people who fall in love just once. And there’s no happy end to it. And that’s all.
I don’t know exactly how to put it, but this idea of what falling in love is for real frightens me. It does because I believe it to be true with all my heart. It’s a beautiful idea, somewhat reassuring that love can’t die. At the same time, it’s a sad one when it comes to unrequited love: you are doomed to love that person who couldn’t love you for the rest of your life. And even if you fall in love again, amnesia can’t hit so much as to really forget the other loves you’ve gathered through the years.
So yes, I agree. I do believe that once you FALL IN LOVE it lasts forever.
And I can only advice you to be careful with your hearts, we all know they don’t mend so quickly!
P.S. For the literature lovers I strongly recommend a novel written by Ian McEwan: On Chesil Beach. Worth reading page by page! A beautiful love story who lasted forever, yet the outcome of it wasn’t the expected one even if marriage was involved.
